Alright those were some interesting facts from + XD

Now it's my turn to post something

Going once, going twice... Sold, for one dollar to the lovely... wait.. one dollar?!?

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pennsylvania (AP) — Education officials in Pennsylvania are red-faced after making a costly mistake on eBay.

The East Stroudsburg School District was attempting to sell seven used classroom trailers, but an error in its ad on the online auction site allowed someone to bid and buy one trailer for only a dollar.

The district had purchased the trailers three years ago for about $46,000 each. With transportation and setup costs, the total came to around $60,000.

Officials were expecting to get around $5,000 to $10,000 per trailer on eBay.

District superintendent Rachel Heath says officials tried to back out of the eBay sale but couldn't.

Asked if the remaining trailers will be sold on eBay, Heath says, "No I don't think we will go that route again."

now... for some other news... something from some time ago

Terrell Jones, a boy in Atlanta wore a T-shirt to school bearing this logo: "
Hempstead, NY 516." The school principal threatened to suspend the boy for wearing a pro-marijuana T-shirt.

The suspension was dropped when the principal found out that the boy's family had moved to Atlanta from the town of Hempstead, New York.

I think it's safe to say that if you're not sure about something, do one of two things: either ask, or else, shut the hell up. Apparently,
"Hempstead," according to cannabis historian Michael Aldrich, "probably referred to a farm where hemp was grown, which then became the name of the town that sprang up around it."] By naming their town after the plant, the founders of Hempstead, England were paying cannabis a great honor; and subsequently, the founders of Hempstead, Long Island, were paying homage to their roots..."

I never would have thought about that. But I guess the lesson here is... " Know your students well before judging them. Otherwise you'll end being embarrassed by your own students."

OUCH! Man Saved by His Pants While Climbing Power Pole

DULUTH, GA (AP) -- Authorities say a Georgia man was saved by his pants when he decided to climb 35 feet up a power pole and slipped. The pants luckily caught on the metal tower, stopping his fall.

Gwinnett County Fire Department officials believe the 21-year-old man from Duluth, Ga., had been drinking and ignored a companion's suggestion he had climbed far enough up the pole.

Officials did not identify the man.

After his pants caught, the man spent about two hours dangling before a rescue team climbed the tower and got him down.

No charges had been filed Saturday afternoon.

You may be wondering why the OUCH! in the title... well, that was actually our comment. Imagine that this was the first time a wedgie saved a person's life. Otherwise, that could have been a really painful experience, or maybe not, depending on how he hung from that pole.

Advertising doesn't always work

Underwhaaaaaa?

Public nudity is always funny, even if it’s a smoking hot chick who could stop traffic with her killer knobs because chances are she’ll actually stop traffic and cause some kind of massive pile-up. It would bring new meaning to “rubbernecking.”

This naked robber wouldn’t attract the same attention. He stripped down to his shorts, stuffed the dough in his underwear and took off on a bicycle, according to the AP

The suspect robbed an auto parts store and used a toy gun to rob the place ordering them to give him all their money or he would shoot them.

He took the money and stuffed it in his underwear, then took off his clothes and fled the scene. I’m surprised that when he took off his clothes that the victims didn’t flee the scene.

Police caught the guy riding his bicycle with the money hidden in his underwear. When police arrived, the man had a load of cash in his shorts but he reportedly wasn’t happy to see them.

bored of Nascar?

CALLAHAN, FL -- Tired of NASCAR? Looking for a new white-knuckled, breakneck thril? Then look no further than Callahan's own Atlantic Coast Lawn Mower Racing Association.

John McCoy snapped these pics of the racers in action, near U.S. 1. He says he was just passing by and happened to see the mowers tearing around the track.

He tells us the mowers get up to about 30-40 mph. The drivers modify the mowers by taking the blades out. Otherwise, he says, they are "stock."

Shooting victim goes to work with bullet in head

December 18, 2008

A Florida man was hit by a stray bullet in the back of the head but it didn’t keep him from work.

E.T. Strickland, 74, a commercial real estate seller, said the bullet hurts, but not enough to keep him from his job.

Strickland was told by his doctors not to have the bullet removed unless it was pressing on any arteries or causing health problems.

He does plan to see a neurosurgeon though because he wants it taken out if possible.

Police said Strickland was hit by a bullet Tuesday night from an attempted robbery outside a Walgreens store. A second person was also shot, several times, as he was leaving the store. Police said that person was listed in stable condition Wednesday.

Newspaper says car thief transformed into a goat

The Vanguard, one of the largest newspapers in Nigeria, reported that police implicated a goat in an attempted automobile theft. The article appeared on the front page.

Two men tried to steal a Mazda car in Kwara State, with one suspect transforming himself into a goat as vigilantes cornered him.

The paper quoted police spokesman Tunde Mohammed as saying that while one suspect escaped, the other transformed into a goat as he was about to be apprehended.

The newspaper reported that police paraded the goat before journalists, and published a picture of the animal.

Police in the state couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

Belief in black magic is widespread in Nigeria, particularly in far-flung rural areas.

First post ever

This is World of the Unusual, a blog showing how random the world we live in is. Unfortunately, +'s Internet is down, so this post will have to go with or without him. Anyways, what's World of the Unusual about? At least once a week or so, we will post any type of unusual thing we are able to find for that day, even though it happened a while ago. It only has to be "interesting", if you know what I mean.

So, first of all. Happy Birthday Alejandra Chow!

Now, for today's topics.

A man in Colorado robbed two 7-Elevens earlier this morning. What did he use to threaten people? A bat'leth. ... oh...wait a minute... What the hell is a bat'leth?

"The bat'leth is the Klingon longsword, designed by martial arts enthusiast and Star Trek: The Next Generation effects producer Dan Curry.[15] The bat'leth is a curved blade with spiked protrusions and three handholds along the middle of the blade's back. In battle, the handholds are used to twirl and spin the blade rapidly."

-Wikipedia
... or otherwise known as a toy sword. At this moment I'm thinking either, " who robs someone with a toy sword?" or to make matters worse... "who gets robbed with a toy sword?"

Ok, I know what you're thinking... what about bb guns? Well, they actually look like guns, and not something I used to "defeat the tyrant Molor, and reunite the Klingon Homeworld."

One interesting fact that happened on February 4th, 1703.

In Edo (now Tokyo), 46 of the Forty-seven Ronin commited seppuku (ritual suicide) as recompense for avenging their master's death.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forty-Seven_Ronin

First of all, they should have avenged their master in a more discreet manner. I think that there was only one smart person in that group because I don't think suicide is a gratifying reward for someone, even regarding their culture and the time period.
